It's True - it is currently made from wood pulp, but may be made from plants in future – A Polish company have patented a new way of making cellulose pulp, the crucial ingredient in paper, from a fast-growing perennial plant called Virgina mallow which contains as much cellulose, on a weight for weight basis, as a pine or birch tree ! With no bark to remove and with far fewer impurities like resins, the processing costs are much lower. Virginia mallow paper is apparently as strong as wood based paper, and another bonus is that the plant grows 10 times faster than a conifer tree.

It's True - Belches from farmyard animals account for over 20% of the global emissions of the greenhouse gas methane – but not if you feed them on a seafood diet ! Researchers from Belgium have discovered that adding fish oil to animal feeds dramatically reduces methane production in the stomach, but without affecting digestion. The oil works by preventing the growth of gut bacteria which normally break down food to produce methane. The researchers also hope that the fish oil supplements will make the animals healthier and so too the people that eventually eat them !
