How important are the microorganisms all around us?

The microorganisms all around us, and inside us, can influence some surprising facets of life - including our mood and weight.

Dr Jack Gilbert from Argonne National Labs and Chicago University, USA is using meta-genomics technology to learn all about these microorganism communities by sequencing their genomes - collectively called the 'microbiome'.
