Hey Guys, I was reading about how the work of Lise Meitner on fission was not fully recognized by the scientific community and how she was not even part of the Nobel Prize awarded for this important discovery. What an injustice. Was it because she was a woman? a jew? or because she didn't really do all the work that is attributed to Otto Hahn? you be the judge!

Nobel prizes are awarded on the basis of politics, as often as not. Being a woman was a detriment, although not a barrier. Being Jewish was a detriment because she had to flee Nazi Germany and broke the continuity of her work. Getting the credit for your work can be as tough as anything else, and if she did not demand it, I'm not surprised she didn't get it. Even Einstein was not awarded a Nobel prize for many years, and that was politics as usual. When he did get one, it was for photoelectric effect, and not relativity, and that was more politics. So you see, this story is unfortunately common.
