The download you have linked to is not the "whole database" of wikipedia: it's only a few thousand articles edited to be suitable for children.

Download the iso image and burn it onto a CD. The uncompressed iso image is 432Mb, the compresseed version in a zip file is 280Mb so will take about half the time to download, (will still take about an hour though).

Ok but How can I get full version ?

Warning: the file enwiki-20080103-pages-meta-history.xml.7z decompresses to 2.8 Terabytes.
Before wasting Internet Archive's bandwidth, ask yourself: do you really have enough hard disk space to work on this file?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Database_download#Latest_complete_dump_of_english_wikipedia

2.8 Terabytes is approximately 600 DVDs / 3500 CDs worth of data.

i don't think they will provide packages of that. downloading all those pages manually might help and then reading them in your spare time. if you really want good quality in depth scientific information, i wouldn't trust wikipedia pages though. why not subscribe to a journal or grab a science magazine when you want something to read, or just print out articles you find online?

There are programmes which allow you to browse off-line the wikipedia pages you have selected to store on your computer e.g. ...

Okawix lets you download all of Wikipedia articles, with or without the pictures, so that you can read them off-line.
http://blog.wikiwix.com/en/2009/08/14/

Similar programmes are available, (I've never used this programme).

Even if you had several Tb of hard drive space,
have you calculated how long it would take to download 1Tb on your computer via your internet connection ?.
It could take weeks to download, and decades to read, (unless you've got a port in your skull like Johnny Mnemonic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QComFWf0DUo)  [:)] ).

I told already.
Magazine don't say OLD stuff the past ..
I mean the discovered stuff. it's not like wiki.
