Title: Why do my kidneys hurt when I wake up?
Post by: Stefanb on 15/09/2009 13:33:28
For over a year now, my kidneys have been hurting when I wake up. When I relieve myself in the restroom, they feel better. I have done a little searching on the internet but none of the answers really helped me, so I am trying it here. Is there any way to stop this? Do I have some kidney problem?

Maybe you have stones.
I would see a doctor if I were you.
Kidney/Liver aches might indicate more grave situations since they are your detox centers.

I'm turning 15 in two weeks. Doesn't that seem a little young for kidney stones? I heard in other places that it could be that my bladder fills up and some backs up into my kidneys and that causes the pain. I am a very deep sleeper and I don't wake up if I need to go to the restroom. Plus I drink a lot of fluids. That's why I don't think that I have kidney stones.

For over a year now, my kidneys have been hurting when I wake up.

An old mattress could cause lower back pain which would be most noticeable on waking up.

Are you getting a draft around your back when you sleep?

Go tell your family doctor. Like RD said, it could be the mattress.

I think with the soreness though that you should have them checked(your kidneys that is...) I have this problem also but it has escalated to the evenings and I find it hard to wear certain clothes up around the kidney area as they have become so sensitive.. I have had some problems with my kidneys though so mine are sore due to health issues. That is why I think you should have it checked....It does not matter your age for Kidney problems to develop.

Stephan.. Never allow a symptom to go a Year before having it checked ok? You need to have checked after just a couple weeks of symptoms.. infections can cause real trouble left untreated.(not that you have a infection.)
But any symptoms like that you never know..OK.

Take care Young Man!

Thank you for your concern. I have brought it up on many occasions with my father who is a Doctor. I was just checking to see if anyone was familiar with the symptoms.

RD, that could be the case as the mattress I sleep on is about forty years old. It is a box and spring mattress of high quality. And yes, Don, my fan creates an airflow that comes from all around, including behind me.

How to Know When to Replace a Mattress

#4 Trade in your old mattress for a new one if you find yourself waking up with back pain or other physical discomfort caused by your mattress. Even if your mattress doesn't cause you to lose sleep at night, that doesn't mean it's not the cause of your morning stiffness.
