The new must-have toy: A £159 pogo stick that can boing over a car

Comments (25) Add to My Stories It's the new toy putting a spring in the step of daredevils everywhere.

This is the Flybar, a superpowered pogo stick that allows anyone brave enough to execute a range of acrobatic stunts, including jumping over cars.

Fitted with strong elastic bands, known as rubber thrusters, the Flybar can bounce seven feet and six inches off the ground.

Student Mark Aldridge, 17, uses his pogo stick to jump over a car
The Flybar, which is aimed at children aged 14 and over, became popular in the States but is now available in the UK priced between £149 and £229 depending on size.

It is powered solely by the rider's leg strength and body weight and the height of bounce is controlled by the adjustable piston length.

Mark Aldridge, 17, who picked up his first pogo stick at the age of nine years old, is a big fan.

The student, from Crowthorne, Berkshire, said the Flybar was a 'really heavy-duty piece of equipment' and compared it to using a trampoline.

'When I first tried it I realised it was nothing like my old pogo stick  -  you really needed to be strong to be able to use it properly,' he said.

'It was pretty hardcore, quite scary at first but with a bit of practice I managed to get the hang of it.'

Mark has been pogo-ing since he was nine years old
But his daring backflips have come at a price  -  he has suffered broken ribs, a broken ankle and numerous bruises while performing.

A spokesman for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents warned that the toy could be dangerous if it wasn't used safely.

'We would advise that parents think things through before they buy toys like this, and to take safety precautions,' he said.

'Like all toys and especially those for outdoor use, there could be risks and so we recommend adult supervision at all times, particularly with young children.

'But risks are a part of childhood and growing up. Children should be as safe as necessary, not as safe as possible.'

From the same site:

The blurb says:

This 11" Jesus plush little thinker doll comes with a WWID (What Would I Do) bracelet around his wrist.

We'd explain more about who Jesus was, but if you don't know by now, you never will. At least not until the rapture.

Heathen

It has to be a wind-up.

That's easy. Shakespeare was a Christian.

He could have been a closet pagan. After all, the witches in the Scottish play were described rather well.

No they weren't. Witches don't behave like that at all.
