Title: It Hurts when I DON'T Sneeze !!

Hello,

Why is it that when I almost sneeze (don't you hate it when that happens ?)...anyway, why is it that on the bridge of my nose, or in that vicinity , does it sometimes really hurt when the sneeze fails to come to fruition ?

It just happened now and it hurts.

I've got a really good sneezing story! I was choking on my cornflakes the other morning, so i was bent over and coughing etc, when i suddenly stopped choking. but then i started sneezing, so i blew my nose and a cornflake came out!!!!!!

Perhaps that's why it hurts !!..I bet I'll find a cornflake from 1992 up my nose !!!....and Nancy...thanks :-)

When you swallow, the soft palate (the floppy bit that dangles at the back of your throat) tenses up and blocks off the 'nasopharynx' - the connection between your nose and throat - so that as your tongue forces food towards the back of the mouth it does down your oesophagus, rather than up your nose. But when you cough, just as when you are sick, the connection up to the nose remains patent - in order to expel everything by whatever route possible - and hence anything stuck in your throat can also be blown up you or nose. That's why a really powerful chunder can blow chunks down your nose.

Hence your cornflake that went the wrong way and triggered choking got blown up your nose, by the choking, then irritated your nose and caused a sneezing attack, then finally got expelled when you blew your nose.

....but I wasn't joking about the pain in my nostrils !! (well specifically around the bridge)...it's when you're on the very brink of a sneeze and it just doesn't happen.....am I really the only one who experiences this ?
