Title: Wormhole
Post by: tony6789 on 08/02/2006 14:24:13
is there really such thing as a wormhole? Or is it as fake as Dracula?

If it is real what does it do and what is it

It is a perfectly reasonable possibility but is probably only reasonably likely to exist on a subatomic scale.  Unfortunately some of the more spectacular properties of a wormhole like the ability to go from one universe to another or from one place in this universe to another place in this universe instantly make some people unreasonably interested in it on a human scale.  My feeling that the energies required to create and control a wormhole on a human scale are likely to be much greater than those needed to create a black hole of the same size and totally outside the practical range.

If wormholes can link from one universe to another, at whatever scale, then would this mean that energy can leak from one universe to another, and thus violate conservation laws within a given universe; or is there a trade-off that will offset such an energy leakage into or out of a given universe?

I think I've read that wormholes connecting to another or perhaps, several other universes could account for that enigmatic "dark matter".

i'm a total amateur physicist, so feel free to correct, but from some articles i've read it seems our laws of energy conservation will be changing. more specifically this article

i don't really know if this "n-machine" is legit. it seems so, but this is the internet we're talkin about. if it is, this could have amazing results for society.

If it worked and was easy to do we'd all have been using it years ago  believe me.

Does it seem possible that in wormholes that connect blackholes, we would find a breakdown of science laws?

We do find the breakdown of science laws inside a black hole. It is called the sigularity and it occurs when you get past the event horizon in a black hole. Also this is what the universe expanded out of in the theory of and expanding universe. Maybe someone like ian could explain what these sigularities are a bit more detailed because all my knowledge is from books and also they seem really interesting

That's wrong. We don't see ANY breakdown in the science laws because we can't see it because it is hidden behind the event horizon.  however taking the maths to the limmit there appears to be something missing in our inderstanding particularly the case of a non rotating black hole because a mathematical singularity of infinite density and energy just does not make any sort of sense.  However  as I have clearly explained elsewhere it is IMPOSSIBLE to create a large, non rotating, black hole (or as near damned impossible that it makes no difference) and a rotating black hole has very different properties from a non rotating one.

I am still looking for results from someone who has looked at the processes of the formation of the ring or toroidal singularity inside a rotating black hole using the physics that we know today up to the point where it breaks down.  I have tried to explain this in my topic "the view from a ring singularity" but would seriously like some peer reviowing of my thinking

another_someone - conservation of energy applies in a closed system. If 2 or more universes became joined through wormholes, those universes would become part of the same system & conservation would be maintained.

The point I was making is that if this is true, since we cannot observe any but our own universe, we would see what appeared to be a violation of the conservation of energy.
