No, they are not. Grand Unified Theories are neither as grand, or unified as you would think. GUTs seek to unifiy the separate forces of the standard model. Electroweak theory was the first step in that direction, followed by the unifications possible through Quantum Chromodynamics. The unification of gravity has proven elusive. This has fallen under TOE, which seeks to explain matter, energy, time, and space to the Planck level.

Hmmmm.....I've heard there were several GUT's in the past, but they were to lengthly and "not beautiful" err something like that...What would the uniting look like in lamens terms?

I think people expect the ultimate GUT to be the equivalent of E = MC^2. Unfortunately, it won't be anywhere near as beautiful as that. All a GUT will acheive is to unify gravity with the other three forces (weak force, strong force and electromagnetic force), which currently noone has done.

It will probably look like...
