Post by: neilep on 02/10/2007 16:45:41
Air is great !!...I luff it...ewe luff it...we all need it !

Here is where all the air in the world comes from.

yep, from that actual pump !!...this is true !!

If I filled a room with air and then sealed it completely for a thousand years and then came back  (obviously with a few gray hairs)and unsealed it would it be just as nice to breathe as it would have been  when I filled the room ?...does air go off ?...If I breathed in too much air would I need an air cut ?

Pure sterile air, of itself, is inert and can last indefinitely without going off.

In the real world, conditions are not sterile, and there will be micro-organisms and even macro-organisms breathing that air, as well as whatever the air is contained in possibly leaking gasses into the air.  The rate at which the air changes will be very slow, so it will take a very very long time for an appreciable change to occur, but some change will happen.

I would imagine that in the case of the air in the pump above, your most immediate problem will be the vapours given off by the rubber hose.

Not too sure, have you ever let the air out of a bicycle tyre? It smells disgusting, i suppose it is more to do with the rubber of the innertube, but i do know people who think it is bad air.
