Post by: Marion Stewart on 11/04/2010 10:30:05
Marion Stewart  asked the Naked Scientists:

Never miss your spot on radio 720 SA. Athough I live in Botswana.

My brother in law in England started off life with brown eyes and at about the age fo 55 they changed to bright blue.  He owns a yacht and sails and I have heard that being at sea a lot can change the colour of your eyes.  all my friends laugh at this but...

kind regards   marion stewart

What do you think?

The apparent colour of eyes (or anything else) depends on the context ...

e.g. eyes may look a different colour in artificial light than when seen in natural light.

My dog started off with blue eyes, but now has hazel eyes ... clearly not an old sea dog! (Actually, for the first year I had her, she didn't know what "walk" meant, as she only recognised "beach" and occasionally "woods" - when the summer season started and the grockles came down, banning dogs from the beach - roll on October when we get our beach back)
