the 1999 WHO-ISH guidelines stating ‘currently available home devices that measure pressure in the fingers or in the arm below the elbow should be avoided’ While the subsequent guidelines from these organizations omitted any comment on self-measurementdevices , the recent European Society of Hypertension guidelines [1], which provided a useful discussion on wrist-cuff devices, still concluded that arm-cuff devices were preferable and stated that ‘wrist instruments should be considered with caution’.
