Title: Why does Tarzan not have a Beard?

Shouldn't it have one, seeing it lives in the jungle?

well good thoughts, tarzan was also a small boy left alone by the death of his parents in the jungle, he was left with all the things his parents had left in the hut , old mirrors shaving stuff etc etc.. he learned to do all this lovely stuff via the cable link to the hut the apes raised him in!! LOL

Tarzan does what any good ' brought-up-by-apes-in-a-jungle ' bloke does and that is pop down the high street to the barbers .

Ahh... There it is! My master of all knowledge!! So, he hasn't gone through puberty and had no body hair!!

How on earth did anyone find out that that trick worked; and what were they trying to do at the time?

I believe that Johnny Weissmuller did mention it in an interview he gave (I think it is referred to somewhere on the Internet, but cannot recall where I saw it - or maybe heard about it on the radio).

It was an interview with Weissmuller on the radio that I listened to a short while ago.

Amazingly he also claimed that the crocodiles didn't bother him as he could out swim them!

I'm not sure how serious he was being but I don't think I would fancy trying either........

He did state that the Lions had been de clawed and had their teeth filed down so it wouldn't surprise me if that had also been castrated.

Yes Cheeta's still alive and is the oldest known chimp. Now diabetic, Cheeta celebrated with diet cola and a low sugar cake.

I think castrated probably does mean what you hope it doesn't; castration is the process of removing the testes.

Don't worry Seany, its rarely done on humans but common with some animals, cats, dogs, horses, cattle and some others.

Its done to stop reproduction and makes the animal more passive, less aggressive.

In fact I will be taking Fudge my young tom cat to the vets soon to be neutered (the same thing), so in his case it will be just the sausage!  [;D]

Not now, but castrati used to be not uncommon, and if you came from an impoverished background, it was one way of making a living.

Eunuchs were also used in the harems of the ottoman empire, and within the Chinese civil service.

There are a few records of the last castrati singer. Of course, there always was a problem; how did you identify people who would go on to become good singers when they were young enough that this operation would work?
The simple answer is you couldn't.
That singer wasn't that good an example of the "benefits" of castration. That's what I call a waste.

However, up until 1900 or so, there were several still sining in opera. The last known Italian castrati died in 1920. Before 1800 practically no women sang the soprano line on stage. And - are you prepared for this? - the castrati were the rock stars of their time. Being one did not prevent them from "operating" their "equipment." They were "shooting blanks."
