To whom it may concern:
You do operate a very educational web-sight I have learnt a lot of information from it. [APART FROM HOW TO USE A SPELL CHECKER]
However, I am disappointed at that little comment you made. I was reading the question and answer forum and some guy asked if the average person ate 300 tones of food in his/her life time, and you made a rude comment. The comment was "Perhaps in America that would be true, or even for Elvis Presley, but more svelte members of the human race eat about 30 tones of food in their lifetime".
I seriously did not appreciate that rude comment. I am indeed an American citizen, and we are no different than any other places. Infact when it comes down to statistics, we are far better than every other country. I personally think that some countries such as yours are extremely jealous of us Americans. You are jealous of how much resources we have, how much money we have, how big we are, and basically everything else America has to offer [WAR-MONGERING CHIMP-LIKE PRESIDENTS, AN ILLITERACY RATE BETTERED ONLY BY SOUTH AFRICA, THAT SORT OF THING]. I am a 57 year old citizen, of America, I have lived here my entire life.
I have visited every other country in the world [REALLY, YOU HAVE TRAVELLED EXTENSIVELY. AND WITHOUT BASIC SPELLING AND GRAMMAR SKILLS TOO - YOU MUST HAVE RICH PARENTS], yet have I found a country as good as America. We are not all fat pigs as your society has deprived as us [SO YOU'RE SAYING WE'RE STEALING YOUR FAT PIGS NOW?]. In America I do admit we have some over eaters, just like Britain. Just because you live in that crappy island called Britain doesn't mean that you are superior to every other country in this world. You all have just as many problems as we do, infact statistically your country is far worse than America. Despite our so called weight problem we have a statistically higher life expectancy than any other country in the world [THAT IS, IF A HIGHER LIFE EXPECTANCY THAN ANY OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD IS TAKEN TO MEAN THAT AMERICANS LIVE LESS LONG THAN PEOPLE IN BRITAIN OR JAPAN, FOR INSTANCE]. Again, I do not like that ridiculous comment you made.
If you would actually take time to visit America you would feel as if you have wasted your life over their on that tiny cold island. My state is much larger than your country, and I live in the 38th smallest state in America. You need to watch your mouth about those little comments you make sir [OOPS]. With all due respect, I am going to report you for internet abuse [I'M GETTING REALLY SCARED NOW, AREN'T YOU?]. Saying negative things about other countries should not be permitted on the World Wide Web [YEAH, GEORGE BUSH]. You are just so jealous you can't handle your self, because we are so rich, and have so many resources. Again I am terribly sorry of your jealousness, however you do not need to say things like that about places in this world that is far better than that island you live on.

Well I guess I will try again! I think this person has a huge chip on their shoulder. I am an american and have never had a problem with anything on here as far as your comments. The forum is great and if someone has a problem and politely says they are offended or otherwise feel bad just say something... People have always been polite and curteous here in the forum. I love all of You Uk folks as well as stateside and world wide, frankly I don't people or countries as being better then another really, not in that since of the word. I love America England and the rest of Uk and world... I have never traveled, so don't have experience that way.. But I am A lover of people and places and faces of every variety! So I really think that opinion was way out of line... I was born and raised here in humboldt county California, and I have been very few places away from home. I flew twice going and coming from Boise Idaho! Thats it!! I love this world.. fat skinny, short tall bald or hairy, doesn't matter people are people no matter where they are from.. And frankly we have so much junk food in america that it would not surprise me about the statistics on obesiety! It's just a fact of life! There should be no offence taken ... I am afat American that is now 107 Lbs lighter then I was 1 year ago when I joined this forum.. Posting in the Zeta Thread which has helped me as a support group a great deal! I began rewading the forum instead of eating all the time and I still have 93 lbs to go... but I expect to be where I should be by July next year! And What the heck... I wouldn't know how much the human person averaged a year if it bit me in the tailfeathers! I just know that I was eating too much!! This person has a large chip on shoulders... Chris you have a great site and are doing a swell Job! Please take no heed in respose to the comment... Jeesh So Lame!

I think Karen is right though, this person does seem to have a chip on their shoulder.....if the person who sent that email is reading this, the chip reference, it's not a real chip, I am not calling you fat [;)]
A lot of people seem to take things to heart though, sometimes it's hard not to but afterall it's the internet. You can't control what people say or do all the time, it's impossible.
So I am in two minds, either it is a joke or someone really did take something you said to heart.

Why visit every other country ?..why not all of them ?...seems silly to keep on skipping one out !

After reading the above posts...there is something to be said about statistics...1) What are the findings based on? 2) How many people reported their actual weight or is it just the doctor's office that report findings? 3)Fat can be interpreted in many ways...we all have body fat measured usually in percentages.4)Statistics can be played with so many ways...hard to determine if any study is accurate for the whole human race...or if it is just based on so many people in a group.
I love people too...but there has to someone who would like to put out the fire with some water instead of adding wood when a fire is started. The question to ask ourselves...are you wood? Or are you fire?
If this is a legit email, the question is what will be the outcome if the person was to take action? If they did, has it affected us yet? Or has it caused us to think a bit more prejudicely?
Maybe it was an American....or maybe it wasn't? Who is to say? Maybe it could've been a Brit, Canadian, African, Italian, or other....maybe they don't like Americans even though they pretended to be one? The ammunition used could've been from anyone.
I agree with you Dan, we should just forget about it.

I now have a follow up email from the person, sent in response to my reply. Here it is, and very enlightening it is too! :

I am sorry, that e-mail did seem a small bit conceded. I have grown up in a seemingly rich environment, so I would suppose some of my families arrogance has rubbed off on me. Again sorry for the terrible e-mail I sent you. However, that joke you cracked did seem rude to the American world. I do love America and in my humble opinion I do not necessarily like those jokes you have cracked. I do take things far to seriously I understand that, but when it comes to calling us fat it seems a small bit to extreme.
We are indeed the fattest by statistics that however, does not mean we eat 500 tones of food. And yes we may use more resources than any other country, but look at the population its near 280 million people. If you take the population diversity into effect we may still seem like a country whom enjoys food. I am sorry for saying we have a higher life expectancy than the U.K... that 6 months makes a world of difference. I however, will not report that joke to anyone. I just said that to spice up the argument.
Maybe the U.S is a small bit overweight, but who cares about weight? I know it does decrease ones life span by a small sum, it does not however make us a place to criticize. In America I was taught that all U.K individuals have nasty looking teeth, drink gallons of tea, is very rude, has this loud voice, and had a very disturbing past. None of that is true other than the disturbing past thing, we had our share of past incidents to. You must take into knowledge that this country is only 230 years old as well. Look how much we have grown in those short years.
Just for the record, 6 months of extra life expectance isn't that much to brag about. Especially if you take into account how successful this wonderful country is. Again, I am sorry for that arrogant e-mail I have sent you. It is just how I was raised. I was raised in a family of millionaires, some of their horrid behavior has rubbed of on me unfortunately. So lets forget about this dilemma.
Since you are a scientist I do have some questions. First of all I am not a 57 year old person. I just said that to make my e-mail sounds more important. Infact I am a 16 year old male.

Very nice Chris, I am glad the young man had a change of heart, Seems to be a sensitive young fellow indeed.. Bravo for the young man to step up and express this readjustment of his previous email..It sounds as if he has learned something about himself.. and others... Maybe he will stick aroundand explore the forum more.. He is young and I remember being that age and you do tend to take things much more personally at that age, because you are still living very much in your own Id at that point of your life.. Bravo to him for being big enough to step away and look at the big picture!

LOL LOL LOL!! I spent too much money tonight I went to the Hot tubs and soaked for two hours, then I ate dinner out in a nice italian resturant where I did not have to be the MAID! Then I realized I paid $33.00 for the Hot tub and almost almost 100.00 dollars for dinner, where Robert then joined me... Oh the shock of the money leaving my fingers I cringed at the thought then thought better about it. The time in the tub to think and try to remember why I love my knucklehead children was worth it as I was ready to drop kick them all for stupidity slobliness and blatent miss-use of their mother and her incredible patience with them.....as well as her ability to not kick them all out to the moon!! I have decided I was worth 150.00 as if I hadn't you all would have never seen me again as I was about to check out permanantly!!!!
I am relaxed for the time being.. I sat outside in a very nice finnish Hot tub soaking all my problems away.. whilst it poured down rain on me and the big redood tree over my head dripped very cold water on my face as it was storming like mad.. and the tubs are outside amongst the weather! I was also finding that was not the only thing that was floating away.. Seems I have a couple body parts that are quite bouyant! OH well!
