We keep building strong robots, robots that can perform feats humans of which humans are incapable. It seems we spiral to an ultimate robot that is better than us physically, mentally, and can beat the snot out of us. Do we really want that? Why not build them to do things for us, but make them weaker than us, so that we can still control them if they go rogue. More than Asimov's three laws I think robots also need power systems controlled separate from their logic systems. This way if a robot goes rogue we cause the power to fail. I Robot shows the need for redundant separate control systems to stop rogue robots.

A weak robot can still kill. We need to get AGI software right so that we know they won't be dangerous.

The majority of our "robots" are industrial robots.
Welding, moving cars, fabrication, etc. They are designed specifically for the task at hand. Heavy duty if working on cars, perhaps light duty in IC board fabrication.
Most somewhat autonomous "robots" are in fact pretty simplistic, such as a vacuum cleaner that just goes in circles, bumping off of furniture, until it has covered most of the floor.
Some robots such as the martian rovers are semi-autonomous due to the transmission delays between Earth and Mars, but everything they do has to be following an instruction set.
Perhaps the risk of "terminator" is with the military seeking out advanced technology. Our aircraft drones currently require a human pilot during missions. How responsive are they to signal jamming? I would assume they have a "return to base" sequence programmed in. It wouldn't be too big of a leap to give them autonomous defense response capabilities... No doubt, within the next decade we'll see drone vs drone combat. What next?

I wonder what would happen to the robots after they took over? according to the terminator movies the robots get smarter then us and take over. In the movie it is suggested that the existing robots build more and better robots and over time the terminators get more and more deadly.
But if humanity lost the war to the machines then the robots would go through an evolution, the machines would evolve far faster then normal life and within 1000 years or so the machines would be almost god like. Because the robots no longer have to fight anything (humanity is gone) the robots don't need to be "militaristic" and might be the next step in evolution.

Scientists keep delving into the programming language of our DNA. At some point they will decipher the code and allow us to change our programming, to find cures or create monstrosities. Are we someone's weak robots? Will we find a master switch hidden in the code that allows our creator to control us or shut us down? If we changed our fundamental programming would a fail-safe be triggered to warn the creator. The warning mechanism could be an unconscious unrelenting need for humans to build a communication device to transmit a message to the maker. Would the maker arrive at our bequest to cause a technological Tower of Babel to fall?
