Claire Bockner asked the Naked Scientists:
Listening to the report on the terrible fires, rainforest destruction and unsustainable palm olive production in Indonesia and I was surprised that there was no mention of the threat to our primate cousins, the unique Orangutans. This spectacular species is particularly vulnerable to loss of habitat, though I expect there also are many other probably less spectacular species under similar threat in this region getting blanketed by smoke.
I wondered why this aspect of the destructive fires was not features in your otherwise excellent report.
Claire (in Adelaide, South Australia)
