Does anyone know why these 'AA's sneak in

some voices out there  claiming

I don't know for sure, but I can tell you there are some pretty spurious characters on this forum.

You're not talking about me are you?

When you see characters that are obviously not US/English characters popping in in odd places, they are usually some kind of formatting character.  Bold, italics, or something similar.

When looking at web links, I often see a %20, which I think is a space.

If you give me a little more to go by, I might know what you are supposed to be seeing rather than "Ã"

I went into IE9 tools and changed the encoding to western ISO that seems to have done the trick
