Title: Why are some nipples inverted? What makes them erect?

Ok, my curiosity has been TWEEKED (pun very intended) about nipples. You have the obvious, forever asked question of why men have them. I want to know a little more about them. My wife's and oldest son's nipples go in (inverted)... Why? Some get very erect while some others don't... why? I'm a grown man and have perpetually erect nipples. It's almost embarrassing. [:I] Short of taking toenail clippers to them, [:o] what could be done about that? And, please feel free to add any other information about nipples that you have.

Inverted nipples are handy for storing single peas when a snack is required.
