the speed of light is the ground state of the universe

The speed of light is the ground state of the universe, with all inertial references existing at potential relative to this ground state. In electrical circuits, there is a ground wire, which is the same ground for the entire circuit. They all use the same ground state, therefore the ground state will appear the same for all. This does not change as we move around the circuit.
If you apply special relativity, at the speed of light, the universe will appear contracted to a point-instant. What this unique discontinuity does is it conceptually dissociates space-time into separate space and separate time. If we follow a time line/thread, which is now independent of space, we can be anywhere in the universe in zero time; omnipresent, since movement in time is not restricted by space. This lack of restriction in space is implicit in the point-instant universe, where everything overlaps, allowing one to be everywhere, at once.
The path of the photon, we see in inertial references, is a subset of the omnipresence of a time line, limited by inertial reference; space-time. If you follow a time line, that is being restricted by space-time reference, a subset appears which we see as the path of the photon. The photon is omnipresent, due to existing in the ground state at C; point-instant universe. It is also defined by space-time, connected to inertial reference, which coordinates separated space and time into a subset.
Gravity and GR helps to define universal local and global references and space-time. Gravity is an acceleration, which has the units of d/t/t. These are the same dimensional units as space-time plus time, which are the units displayed by photons; separated space and time threads as well as inertial space-time.
This is not alternate theory, since the existing consensus doesn't even has an acceptable theory, as a standard, to be alternate too. This is the gold standard until a second alternate appears. Someone had to set the bar at an opening height. How can non-theory be better than some theory, unless non theory is needed for the mystery, so other theory can levitate in its subjective magic.

I like your concept of reducing the universe to a dot where you can be everywhere at the same time. Yet to do that I must look to an infinite light speed reference plane.
We could consider our universe to be a ground state of a multi-light-speed universe. Alternately there could be other universes of C/2, C/4, C/8 etc.
