Title: Is tinnitus hereditary?
Post by: thedoc on 01/04/2012 09:48:02
Dinah van der Werf  asked the Naked Scientists:

Hello Chris,

Greetings from Malmesbury, near Cape Town in SA, where we enjoy your Friday morning sessions on the radio. So before my question, thanks very much for the broadcasts out here. We appreciate you making the time so early in the morning to do them, and they are much appreciated by the Cape Talk listeners.

I had hoped to hear a response from my question sent into Redi T. but no time for that one last week it seems, so here it is again. Hopefully you can help many older folk, including myself, overcome this annoying problem. It is tinnitus. Is it hereditary as my late mother experienced it too as she got older, and please is there any cure for it yet? Is there anything we could have done to avoid it developing, or worse still, is it part of the ageing process?

Yours most sincerely,

Dinah van der Werf.
