Post by: applet on 20/03/2013 19:14:24
hope one of your knowledgeable selves can help.
As the best before date approaches, doesn't the nutrients level in the extra virgin oil decrease?
would appreciate answers with reliable website information

l had a 5L tin of extra virgin oil delivered today and it had only 4months left before the best before date,
should l claim an exchange or is it not worth it, since l will likely consume all in 4months.

thanks in advance

The 'life' of olive oil is dependant on many factors, most of which you will be unable to determine from your tin. The better the oil in the first place, the longer it will last. Therefore, the better the olives, the better the oil. The olive oil connesseur will tell you that how the olives were grown, when they were picked and how they were treated will have a bearing on the final product, as will the methods used to press and filter the oil and how and in what the oil was stored.

If you really would like to study olive oil, try this (http://www.intechopen.com/books/olive-germplasm-the-olive-cultivation-table-olive-and-olive-oil-industry-in-italy) for size. Chapter 10 might be the place to find the answer you seek.
