Title: ?oil furnace alteration glitch, why?
Post by: CZARCAR on 27/05/2011 17:17:04
cast iron boiler into which i have a pipe dripping used frying oil [WVO] dripping from a tank & in front of the atomizing gun. WORKS GREAT until the combustion chamber gets hot & then the dripping WVO flow from the tank slows down! & the stack temp cools some. AS is, the flow from the tank is downhill so no WVO can collect in the pipe & has to drip out
Dunno why the flow slows? & keeping the drippipe cooled seems difficult. Any ideas

Do you have a pump?
The hotter the oil, the thinner, and perhaps it would be less effective with an ailing the pump.
Or, on the other hand, heat may not be the culprit, but the thick oil and time.

I've never understood the concept of vapor locks in a car.  However, perhaps you are getting vapor or smoke with extreme heats.

no pump just drip. Its weird that the oil drips less when it gets hot. The inferno inside the firechamber diminishes as it gets hotter!

It's because some of the oil is vaporizing before it gets to the orifice. This creates back pressure that reduces the flow. If you shield the pipe from the heat, the flow will increase.

thanx, oil is unfiltered & dripvalve plugs up. i've changed the scheme since but this was the best BLINDING flame
