Title: Do women produce more tears than men?

Am working on an essay and remember hearing that women are physically able to produce more tears than men, its bugging me that I can't find where I read it, has anyone got a quote and a reference?

women certainly cry more than men do (especially pre-menstrually), but as to the volume of tears produced, I've not heard that there is a sex bias in favour of women.

Sarat, seeing as your memory is vague perhaps you heard that girlies are physically able to induce tears easier than men...I know my daughter can make tears happen almost at will !!..but...in aid of empirical study I lined up my 8 year old daughter and 10 year old son and told them that we were putting them up for adoption....after 15 minutes I can say that the tear count was pretty much the same......except in me after I told them that I was joking ,they then kicked the living sh*ts out of my  ' meat and two veg ' and this made me the clear winner in the tear making contest.

'Men are the same as women...just inside out !'

Well Neil, you got tears at your announcement instead of a celebration?  That's something!  If my parents had said that to me, I would've been packed and out before they could retract!

Neil thank you for your experiment have only got the one male child so was unable to conduct such an experiment myself. Have since found my reference  William H Frey did a study on crying and found that woman are physically able to produce more tears than men because their tear ducts are bigger. Thanks tho x

I think it was a matter of who would adopt you. When I was about to go to college, I still hated my parents very much, but when my dad said that he would let his older sister adopt me, I was just staying silent in tears because I know that she is even stricter than my parents.

Well, it stated a true fact that women do cry more than men. But it doesn't make a woman weak in any manner.
