why does drinking alcohol through a straw get you drunker, quicker.

LOL...is this just not an excuse to post piccys of the forum babe !!?*


I don't do alcohol !!!...but I wonder if it's because it arrives in the mouth in a steady stream that probably hits the back of the throat and is quickly swallowed.

I also wonder if the act of sucking the straw helps to concentrate it too and that maybe more drink is imbibed than if sipping !

I would guess that as you suck up the alcohol, you will breath more into your lungs and nose, which will then be directly absorbed into your bloodstream through the various membranes, rather than having to wait for the alcohol to travel down the digestive tract.

You'd have to be a bit drunk to do the experiment, in the first place so you're not starting off shober. Not a fair tesht.

I'll be boring and suggest it's probably that by convention you tend to only drink stronger and more palateable drinks (especially cocktails) using a straw. You'd get laughed out of the bar pretty quick drinking beer through a straw!!!

There must be something in it, 'cos I didn't use a straw  and they told me I looked sober after drinking the length of the Bristol Uni Long Bar - all pumps and optics - over a weekend and circa '69/'70 - can't remember much about that weekend though. Lol

If the drinking-through-a-straw effect is real then it may be for a similar aerated reason.
