Hi,
Our son has contracted MRSA out of nowhere.
He has been seen by his doctor and is on antibiotics. We are using supplements etc, to support his immune system.
From what I understand from researching the net, this is a REAL problem.
Our doctor was not on top of it and we have had to learn the hard way. She didn't advise us to be careful with anything, nor indicated any concern, and had the attitude....here are the drugs and leave my office!
I now know that our whole family has been exposed. As you can imagine this is troubling.
Can anyone advise us? Anything is appreciated, Thanks

i'm really sorry about your son. i'm sick too, but with something different. i have clostridium difficile, which actually is contracted to people who are coming off of antibiotics. i ate something, a hamburger, and i suspect that the vegetables hadn't been washed well. that's how i got a parasite called blastocystis hominis. i was in venezuela, and in the tropics this is very common because of the climate. the warmth and humidity make it ideal for bacterias to flourish. anyways, i was given a very strong antibiotic...metronidazole, which effectively got rid of the parasite. unfortunately however, i found out a week ago that i had clostridium difficile. it really sucks. i thought it was another parasite, but it's actually a bacteria that very many people have in their digestive track...but when the natural intestinal flora is killed by the antibiotic, these other bacterias can flourish. so i just want to warn you at least to take care of your son's currently delicate immune system. i had never heard of these things before, but it seems anybody can have this c. difficile. the difference is that it's harmless to healthy people. always wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap, try to give your son yogurt or foods that are good for his stomach and may help restore his intestinal flora. by the way, what supplements are you using? i've been eating lactobacillus tablets. good luck. warm regards.

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. I am also very sorry to hear of your struggle with parasites and bacteria.
Unfortunately antibiotics seem to be a necessary evil. I try to avoid them as much as possible, but when it is life threatening there seems to be no other choices.
They reek havoc on our intestinal flora and I will list what we are using for this and other things to support the immune system.

Please know I am not a doctor.
I have had MRSA. It is Staphylococcus aurei. (? unsure about last word) It is a bacteria on everyones skin. In the US, about 1/3rd of the people have a mutated version of this, but, as I understand it, it does not need to be mutated to be cause disease. The strain I had was mutated and I got it in the hospital after a hip replacement. It caused pneumonia and set my recovory back considerably. It was treatable by a sulfa drug.
My MRSA was one of the "hospital stains" that have become resistant to any "-cillen" family of antibiotics because of the misuse of antibiotics. There are other more and less infectious strains. Many people get a disease-causing strain in gyms or other public places. It reaally is almost impossible not to be exposed at some point.
The only way to know which strain and treatment is best is to culture the stuff and test it against all the treatments.
Your son's doctor will be doing the thing that is best for your son. But it is also good to press you doctor to see what else may be done.

He is doing much better. The boils have healed. However we can't let out guard down. I have heard that CA-MRSA is a REAL problem and becoming quite the epidemic.
