does one spider always make the same patterned web?

I would think so because different species of spiders build different types of webs for different purposes so if the spider deviated from the design, it would affect how well the web worked.  You will have seen the typical ones that span branches of trees or bushes and you may have also seen the tunnel-type ones in lower corners of doorways etc but there are many more different types depending on the habitat of the spider.  Of course some spiders don't even use webs. 

Interestingly, there was a study done, however, that compared spiders webs after they had been drugged with different substances.  The researchers would feed the spider an intoxicating fly and then take pictures of the webs that were produced.  Some pictures can be found on http://caffeineweb.com/?p=15, although this isn't where I originally found them.
