any book recommendations?

I got an Amazon gift card for Christmas. Any recommendations?
Some topics I like are biology, evolution, animals, neuroscience, anthropology, sociology (more from a neuroscience perspective than political) history, and history of everyday life (how average people lived and interacted in a particular time period) and practical applications of statistics and game theory.
I'm fond of books that combine different disciplines, or apply one area of knowledge to another, (like, say, looking at the role effect of infectious disease in history, or applying chemistry and physics to anthropology.)
As far as fiction goes, I tend to read short story collections and more contemporary novels. Not big on romances or action/thrillers or fantasy. I haven't read a lot of science fiction, but I'm open to it.
What was the best science book or novel you read in the last year or two?

Just finished "The Martian" by Andy Weir. Seriously good interdisciplinary science, fictionalised into an adventure and entertainingly written.
