Title: Answer to Question concerning Nicotine
Post by: thedoc on 09/02/2014 14:30:01
Joseph Gomez asked the Naked Scientists:

The answer to this nicotine question [http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/questions/question/1000323/] has to do with the animals who would naturally consume the tobacco plant would develop a habit and keep them coming back to eat the plant.

This is a benefit because when the tobacco plant's seeds pass through the animal's GI system they exit surrounded by nature's best fertilizer allowing their plant species to successfully populate multiple geographic areas and eliminates neighboring competition from the same species since the animals are likely not to defecate where they eat.

Thanks,

Joseph
