Title: could human body become a nuclear bomb?
Post by: clueless on 29/09/2015 15:04:34
Yotl paragaya is the skeleton of my scenario for a film about a nuclear war.

Yotl paragaya (the title sucks)

Muslim scientists succeed in making pills called yotl paragaya from mescaline of peyote cactus and some other ingredients. When a man consumes a yotl pill, four hours later there is a nuclear reaction of hydrogen in human body by means of fission. This man explodes like a nuclear bomb. Muslim fanatic terrorists, some of which call themselves freedom fighters, distribute yotl pills amongst their Muslim brothers and mujahideen. One live bomb detonates himself by consuming yotl in Dallas, destroying the city. Crimson jihad takes the responsibility and says they will detonate more live nuclear bombs in America unless America pulls all military forces out of the Persian Gulf and certain Muslim countries. But the American government, although shaken and shocked, decides to respond by launching a nuclear ICBM on the Syrian city Tell Abyad, completely destroying it. But, another live bomb explodes and destroys Kansas. Americans then decide to withdraw their troops from certain Muslim countries, but they wreak their rage upon Muslims in USA by burning mosques and deporting some Muslims from America, forbidding most Muslims to enter USA. So it is a pat position, since to Americans it is more than uncomfortable and dreadful because there probably are mujahideen in America who hide their identity and loyalty to crimson jihad. These terrorists can become live nuclear bombs at any moment, as it isn’t difficult to smuggle this small pill in USA. This is why the American government considers changing their current policy regarding Muslim terrorists to possibly form an alliance with them and allow Muslims to come to USA again. American police trains dogs to try to sniff and locate hidden yotl at some airports and borders.

The question to the naked scientists: Is such a pill theoretically possible to make, having in mind men’s quite an imagination when it comes to weapons like those of mass destruction. Most probably not, eh?  [:I]  [xx(]

It sounds like an interesting distopian plot, but definitely not within the realm of possibility (not even close!)

Presumably you meant that people explode by fusion (hydrogen cannot undergo fission, and the rest of the atoms in your body (save for a pitiful few) would not release any energy if they underwent fission (typically atoms lighter than iron do not release energy on fission).

There is also no known way to start a thermonuclear reaction without some really drastic measures. I can think of 4 ways in which fusion has been achieved:

1) In the sun (and other stars), where the incredible mass has forced the atoms into a tight enough proximity and high enough temperature to start fusion.

2) In a thermonuclear bomb, in which a fission bomb is used as the detonator.

3) At the national ignition facility, where they use the worlds largest laser to induce fusion in microgram quantities of tritium (and so far have never generated as much energy from fusion as went into the initiation)

4) Using muons (generated from a nuclear reactor or particle accelerator, and which decompose in much less than a second, so you couldn't put those into a pill) to catalyze fusion in tritium gas.

If there were a substance that could start fusion reactions in organic matter, and be stored in a pill, I suspect this would be a cause for much rejoicing--as the world would no longer know poverty. Just one of these pills (and a steady supply of meat, or water, or whatever), and you could generate more energy than the world would know what to do with.

I was aware that this was a dead-end, but thank you very much that through laws of physics you explained this impossibility.

Not all stories have to be realistic (or even close), but if you wanted to, you could probably have essentially the same plot, but with a chemical or (even more realistic, given your explanation) biological weapon. You wouldn't have the immediate effect of a massive explosion that wipes out a city, but one could imagine a pill that, once taken by a malicious (or oblivious) person would be able to kill most of the people in a town in a short period of time.

Good luck with the story!  [:)]
