Title: Following caesarean delivery, do doctors introduce bacterial flora?

Hi Chris,

I absolutely love your show (http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/podcasts/)!

I'm listening to the podcast (http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/podcasts/) from October 10, and you briefly mentioned the idea that babies born naturally will swallow muck from their Mummy, and thereby seed the bacterial flora in their gut.

Just wondering, what about babies that are NOT born naturally? When doctors do a caesarean section, do they deliberately seed the bacterial flora somehow? If not, does this affect the health of the baby?

Thanks,
