When I say it...it sounds like this looks:
Whensday or winsday...LOL.. so given the proper
Spelling of Wednesday... Is the "d" actually supposed to be silent or should it be heard or pronounced when spoken?
-
Conventionally, the d is silent in Wednesday. Of course, you could use the original version and call it Woden's Day.
It's like hotel. The proper way to say it is to drop the h, so, you don't actually stay in "a hotel", you stay in "an otel".
The Eagles get it right in "Welcome to the Otel California."

Then doesn't it follow as:
Such a lovely 'lace
Such a lovely 'ace
???

I thought it was to do with 'Good King Wednes'! .... No, that don't seem right... ?

It only applies to "h", and AFAIK, only when preceded by the indefinite article.
Here we go!

A better example in the US is herb. It's common to drop the "h", so it should be written as "an herb". It's easy when you get an ang of it.

In my neck of the woods, the correct pronunciation is "Owls".

Look you lot, stop dropping your aitches, some poor bugger as to come around every nite to clear dem up and find summat to do wiv 'em. Ence we end up wiv words like
where instead of were
whhat instead of what
haitch instead of aitch
whether instead of weather
whimpy instead of wimpy
and, of course, some inane dipstick like me bubbling on about something utterly nonsensical.
