Title: Try answering these fun questions?
Post by: Alan McDougall on 11/06/2016 09:26:26
a) If you were rowing upriver against a 10 kilometer flow at 5 kilometers per hour and only became aware that you had dropped your hat into the water an hour previously, how long would it take you to retrieve it, by rowing down the fast flowing the river? ("Ignore the time to turn around")

b) If you at the exact same moment dropped a bullet by hand from the height of your gun barre, as you shot another one out of your gun parallel to the earth, which one would resist the force of gravity the most and hit the ground first?

c) You know that you are coming to a cross road, that could lead either to your death or life depending on which road you take. However, there is a stranger of whom you are allowed just one question, to save your life by establishing road to life. He might be a liar who cannot tell the truth or a man of truth and integrity, you do not know to which of the two you will be talking to.

What would that last and most important question be?

d) Before Mount Everest was discovered what was the highest mountain on earth?

e)If you pass someone in second place in a race,in what place are you now running as?

What is wrong with the below road sign?

f) When you reach the next turn off point at
at the end of the road, turn onto the left
Hand fork to Reach your destination.

f) When you reach the next turn off point at
at the end of the road, turn onto the left
Hand fork to Reach your destination.

A: 20 minutes.  You lost ground of 5km in that hour, while the hat went 10km.  You were able to row 5kph against a 10kph flow, so you can row in neutral water at 15kph, so with the 10kph downstream assist you'd be rowing at 25kph.  The hat is flowing at 10kph.  You are going 15kph faster than the hat, and a distance of 5km separates you, so you will catch up to that pesky hat in 20 minutes!!

B. For all intents and purposes, they will both be affected the same and hit the ground the same, even though there are some tests that have shown the fired bullet to hit the ground just a weeee smidgen after.

C: You ask either one of them "Which road would the other of you tell me to go down if I asked which one would leads to life?", then you walk down whichever road isn't the one they said.  Cause if the road on the right was the life road, and you were asking the liar what the truthteller would say, and in reality the truth teller would give you the correct road on the right, then the liar would tell you he'd say the road on the left.  If you were asking the truthteller what the liar would say, the truthteller would know the liar would give you the death road, and would also tell you the road on the left.  So no matter which of the two you ended up asking and despite your not knowing, you would know the road on the left led to certain death.

D: Everest, of course.

E. Second place, of course.

F.  Not sure I understand what the point of this one was or if you stated it correctly.  A left fork at the turn off point at the end of the road? And how does the sign know my destination?  Or is it simply the misplaced capital R?

B. (Correct but they will meet the ground at the same time because gravity effects then in the exact same degree)

(Correct)

D: Everest, of course. (Correct easy one)

E. Second place, of course.(Correct easy one)

The at , is the repeated at twice , and like you say it makes no sense as to how a sign would know where you wanted to go the capital AND R might also be taken as a mistakes The wording left hand fork is also wrong and meaningless, it should say at the fork, (you cannot turn onto a fork) take the road going in the left direction to reach to reach your destination?), the sign maker should have been fired?

Sorry I took so long to reply I somehow did not get a notification of it in my email inbox

Just a note, I read somewhere that Mount Everest is only the highest mountain in the world based on land level and if we based the measurement from the Earth's center then there is an higher mountain than Everest, I have forgot the name of this other mountain though sorry.

And if you came into a stadium half way through a race and you had no information of laps or time available , there is 3 runners on a circular track,

who is 1st?

who is last?

who is ALWAYS in the middle lol?

You are right!

There is a mountain in South America that is further from earths center than Mount Everest due to the bulge at the earths equator

Your question reminds me of the physics question of the three body problem, it would be impossible to know, unless you could measure their speed relative to each other and which were accelerating more in relation to the the others ?

A new one

If you overtake the runner coming last in a race in what position of the race would you be?
