Anyone got any ideas about Belize in CA or even know where it is?
It is a great place. It has the 2nd longest barrier reef in the world. There are Granites, Faulting, granitic sands, limestones dolomites and diatomite. To name a few. They are also investigating recent oil discoveries, it has taken something like 60 years or more. Even the UN has been involved.
The culture is fascinating as well with an astounding 7 distinct cultural groups and a thriving tourist industry.

I know a bit about it.
It used to be known as British Honduras; becoming independent in 1981. It nestles on the Caribbean coast of CA, bordering Mexico & Guatemala. The capital is Belmopan which is located centrally. English is the official language but Spanish, Mayan & Creole are also spoken.
Having been part of the Mayan Empire, there are some interesting archaelogical sites.
It has become increasingly involved in cocaine smuggling from South America & has a very high crime rate.
The country is subject to British law & the Queen is head of state.
1/3 of the population lives below the poverty line.

Yes, and I seem to remember that territorial disputes between the UK and Guatemala delayed the independence of Belize (formerly British Honduras) until 1981. Guatemala refused to recognize the new nation until 1992. Tourism has become the mainstay of the economy. The country remains plagued by high unemployment, growing involvement in the South American drug trade, and increasing urban crime.
As for the geology, the country is mostly flat, swampy coastal plain; low mountains in south [:D]
