Title: Should I go or should I stay here? What do you think?
Post by: Karen W. on 16/01/2008 04:26:37
OK, so Here it is: I am 47 years old and have never been anywhere, where I was able to listen to or hear a president or past president of our united States speak in person!

They announced today that President Bill CLINTON... WHOM I VOTED FOR AND LIKED, will be here locally tomorrow to campaign for his wife Hillary! Now I am not much for politics and do not watch debates etc.. but I do thoroughly read the issues and read about each candidate with the least bias towards each one as possible. The debates make me sick and they all behave like children, but I think that is the competitive thing happening so I avoid them. I do vote and weigh the issues to be voted on both sides. I am a democrat but that in itself does not make me vote Democratic.. I vote for the candidate I feel is more at the heart of the issue. Their sex life is their own.. not my business.

Aside from that, I have never been able to see a president in person and I really think I might enjoy the opportunity to do so.

I have been rather under the weather and even so.. I think I want to go see him if I can at all get there to do so.

What do you think? Would you all go and do the same?

Oh boy, Karen.  I don't know.  If you do decide to go, please be careful.  Also be sure that someone goes with you.  Do you have one of those mobility scooters?  I would say if you could get one of those or maybe an electric wheelchair then absolutely do it!

A few days after I had my hysterectomy I went Christmas shopping all day.  Husband borrowed one of those scooters and it was a lifesaver.

Well I figure if it is outside I can take a small folding chair dress warm and take a blanket. It is really going to depend on where they have it. They are supposed to tell everyone tomorrow they said the place is subject to change without notice, but it will still be local!

Rob said he will take me.. so that is good.

I'm glad Rob is going with you.  Just be careful and make him carry the folding chair.

I would like to go and give a listen. I do not believe in my lifetime, that a presidential candidate let alone an ex pres has ever visited us here in Humboldt County, and if they have I am not aware of it! So it should be nice to listen.

i will be careful.. I have no choice! LOL.. Thanks!

Well Am I pooped and dead  on my feet! OH my GaWWWWWWWD....We stood in a line about a mile long and we stood for hours before he was supposed to come with a mile worth of line in front of us and at least that much behind us to the end of the part behind us. They really needed to use their heads! There were thousands of peoples and only 400 seats!!!! There were way bigger buildings with huge seating capacity.. in Eureka, but we wait to see President Clinton in a small art exhibit room we use at the fairgrounds!I waited on my feet for hours.. Got sick several times and after hours standing could barely move to get back to the car.. My back was having muscle spasms as well as the muscles that wrap around your rib cage my toes and feet had Charlie horses and my shoulder and legs... It was horrid! I got some silly pictures of zip! A secret serviceman and the sign as well as a few in the crowd.. Never made it into the building their were about a thousand or so who did not make it inside. It was disappointing to say the least! But he did mention all us goof balls out there listening to him from the speakers outside the room.... It was exciting and It was wonderful to be out with people but I was not up for it and we had to go to the car before he finished and listen from the car as I had to lay down after dark.. I am afraid I will be absent a bit off and on.. I am pooped.
Will post pictures in a few moments! LOL!

I would have gone too.

I'm glad you got to go, hope you get plenty of rest now though.

LOL...those secret service guys have no sense of humor and seem to be personality free.

My mom and dad live next door to Plains Georgia, home of Jimmy Carter, our 39th president.  A lot of times when we visit, we have lunch on Sundays at this little country restaurant called Mom's Kitchen.  This is where President Carter eats after church when he's in town.  The Secret Service are everywhere.  They don't crack smiles and they watch every move you make.  During hunting season, when the hunters are out they're all over the parking lot, I assume it's because of all the guns the hunters carry.  It's kind of eerie cos you can feel them watching you in the parking lot and you just pray they aren't trigger happy.

Yes this guy couyldn't even crack smile when I smiled at him! So silly, but I know they need to be extremely careful and watchful when they have a job like this. I heard so many stupid comments from different people about why not let him speak outside at the racetrack! LOL... Good gravy, that would be like puting a target on a field, with a neon light attached to his head flashing, "Shoot me please you Clinton hating sniper...." surrounded with thousands of huge trees late at night on an open track where there would be no way to protect the man for gosh sakes! LOL!

Then there were the comments about how stupid these backwards Humboldt honeys were, (referring to the number of women who came out for the event)and how, the Local Democratic party set up this thing in this small building.. I agree the building was small, but It made me angry because just because we live here in Humboldt County does not make us either a stupid or backwards lot of people!

You wouldn't have believed the comments!

I was impressed with the fact that I have never seen such a huge line of people and how cil and patient and all around Polite the whole crowd was given the amount of people there. I am sad that I was unable to get inside , but was glad we waited outside the building and listened, because regardless of his reputation, Bill Clinton is an extremely intelligent bright man who is very informed and aware of the countries problems and he was an excellent speaker.. The man did about an hour without notes or paper just a speech without prompts. He was very good. I am glad I went and aside from some rather boisterous snobs, It was an interesting good experience!
