Title: Why do I feel sleepy after coffee?
Post by: thedoc on 08/07/2015 22:50:02
Strange Girl asked the Naked Scientists:

I also have the same problem as Matt. I'm not sure if he was referring to sleepy right after or sleepier in general .. - But I drink a cup of coffee almost every day - some days twice. But it just makes me sleepy within around 30 minutes of drinking it. Which is pretty frustrating. I drink it purely for the coffee smell and warmth by the way. I seem to generally feel cold quicker than normal people (even in the summer). So maybe in my case it's that I feel too cosy and smitten by the smell and warmth that it makes me sleepy. It really does the opposite to the typical wake up for me. I really would love something else that can really wake me up aside from coffee though - any suggestions?

What do you think?

There is a misconception that a cup of coffee contains enough caffeine to keep you awake, it does not. you would need to drink around 35 cups of coffee to take in enough caffeine to have such an effect.
