Title: What causes menstrual periods to stop?
Post by: Cheryl Bautista on 18/07/2008 10:08:41
Cheryl Bautista  asked the Naked Scientists:

Hi I was searching for information about menstrual problems.

My sister has 4 years without getting her menstrual and needs help I'm very concerned and want to help her. My sister can't even work because her ankles get swollen and she is only 20 years old, this is taking over her life she needs help.

We wonder if her ankles have to do with her menstrual not coming down? She has gone to the doctor many times and they find nothing wrong with her.

Please help with information about this problem. thank you Dr.

Sincerely
Cheryl B.

Conditions which can cause both irregular menstruation and swollen ankles include:
anorexia nervosa (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/bv.fcgi?indexed=google&rid=hstat1b.table.15531) , underactive thyroid gland  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypothyroidism), polycystic ovary syndrome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCOS) and kidney insufficiency (http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/c/chronic_renal_insufficiency/symptoms.htm).
