Title: Why do animals (including humans) yawn ?
Post by: memasa on 01/08/2005 09:29:11
I have a friend who thinks she is yawning "too" often. [:)] What are the physiological reasons behind that?

She's tired.

Seriously though, how many other people felt the intense desire to yawn when they read memasa's post ? It's certainly infectious.

Ok, maybe I'm just being boring... :) It is certainly infectious, yes. Maybe it's more a behaviORAL thing than anything else, is it? Also, it might naturally be connected to oxygen uptake, or the (relative) lack of it...

Today I realized that whenever I'm interviewing an applicant for a job I seem to be yawning more than usual.
I doubt the applicants even notice this because they don't even know me. And I think that my yawning probably isn't so common that it bothers the interviewee. And it certainly is not caused by me being tired or bored.
My experience just seems to prove the "stretching" theory and/or the evolutionary theory right.

Any other opinions?
