Title: FACEBOOK - Do you have one? Are you in the NS group on FB?

There is also a Naked Science Group on FB - are you a member there yet? I've not heard it advertised very much (if at all) on the podcast, but perhaps I've just missed it - I'm sure that someone cleverer than me can stick the link here....anyway - reach out and spread the science people!

Post by: dentstudent on 09/10/2008 12:12:44: Facebook is a sort of pesonal website that you can use to share photos, video, comments, etc and become a member of various groups. I find it useful for quick and easy communication, and to catch up with various people. You can link up with people and become "friends" (if you want to - you are under no obligation).

You don't have to live in a hole in the ground in order not to know about or engage with Facebook. We older NSs have got it sorted to the extent that we deal with stuff on a needs basis, so after kicking around for a number of decades and doing OK without it we're not all going to sign up just cos it's there.
Most new technology, fashion, etc is aimed at the younger market and I, for one, accept that.
However, I have recently used YouTube (which I know isn't related) and found it extremely useful as it had T S Eliot reading his poems; as I'm currently studying Modernism in English literature it was an excellent primary source.
So we do take some things on board. [;)]

So there is not test taken to join this club then! I will assess the quality of members and make my decision as to whether to join based on that. I seem to remember having two friends on facebook, they cruelly left me all alone in the middle of the night without even saying goodbye...

Just think - now you can claim to be one of the founder members! Everything starts out small (or so I keep telling my wife...)

I've been on it for a few months and yes it does take time to build up a network (unless you're at school etc). But, there are lots of groups and links to other fora (forums?) so it can very much broaden your own network. It worth the initial time investment, I think.

Of course, you could always start up one of your own groups......
