Title: How much salt must be added to ice to prevent water freezing?
Post by: Lucas on 10/12/2008 02:08:56
Hi,

What is the maximum or minimum level of salt that can be added to an ice mixture to reach a temperature below 0ÂșC but without freezing?

P.S.:Excuses about me poor level of U.K. English language...

Adding any salt to water will lower the freezing point.

I think this page might help.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eutectic

A mixture of 23.3 grams of salt and 76.7 grams of water will freeze at -21.2 degrees Celcius.
That is as cold as any mixture of salt and water can get and stay liquid.
