Title: What is this stuff??
Post by: cheryl j on 26/03/2015 05:09:27
It popped up on my computer after a message about not being able to read script or something. It goes on a lot longer.

Looks like a FaceBook button has broken the webpage you were looking at ...
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4188605/what-is-cavalrylogger-and-do-i-need-it

Quote from: adweek.com
Unless you log out of your Facebook account each time you’re done using it,
Facebook follows you to other sites after you’ve finished your Facebook business.
I took a look at the code used in all like buttons and I’ve found instances of
objects and variables named “CavalryLogger” and “dimension-tracking.”
To me it would be Facebook’s version of installing Google analytics since
they’re virtually identically installed and executed.

Facebook reps have claimed that unless the like button is actually clicked,
no information is gathered. And that these widgets aren’t meant for tracking.
But that’s actually a really powerful tracking tool if you think about it.

Facebook knows where you’ve been online.

The browser addon "Ghostery" will stop block FaceBook buttons which appear on pages,
 ( and other unwanted intrusions ),  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostery

The browser addon "NoScript" is even better at blocking unwanted stuff ,
but is only available for FireFox [Mozilla] browsers ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NoScript

It just freaked me out because as it went on and on (which i mostly edited) there seemed to be a lot of references to credit cards and pass words and things.
