When watching documentaries, debates, discussions, ect on all things paranormal, the "believers" 99% of the time outnumber the skeptics. This, I think, is the primary reasons that give these topics legitimacy. That and the fact that they give a palatable, over-simplified "answer" to the complexities of the real world. In these debates/discussions, the skeptics are forced to run a gauntlet (like a prowrestling match where, for example, Hulk Hogan must face several wrestlers alone).
I will add that if any of these paranormal topics prove to be real, they would no longer be paranormal or pseudoscience, but legitimate science. With that said, I am creating a blog and vlog offering a skeptical view of these topics, based on what I know about science, logic, and, most importantly, the massive testimonial contradictions. (a person will tell their story on an "Unsolved Mysteries" segment, and then on another show such as "A Haunting", "Paranormal Witness", "Ghostly Encounters", "Smoothe Young Boys Investigate All Things Paranormal", that same person will say something different.

Cosmology, lightning, evolution, radioactivity....everything is paranormal until it is rationalised by science.

The reason for this has to do with the large percentage of the population being ignorant of science and the scientific method and as such are mislead by the way these charlatans present paranormal material. The next time you watch a show whose subject is the paranormal pay particular attention to these charlatans when they make statements such as "Is it possible that...?" That's a highly misleading question for obvious reasons but people who are ignorant in science and logical reasoning are easily swayed by it.

In my opinion experimental parapsychology (http://psi-encyclopedia.spr.ac.uk/articles/experimental-parapsychology-overview) may require a non-materialist approach to rationalize the evidences of such phenomenons. I believe consciousness itself is "immaterial" and powered by quantum-like interactions.
