Title: The most Saturated Liquid/substance ?
Post by: neilep on 23/07/2007 22:06:51
One sugar or two ?

I am confident that should you vist my house that the tea/coffee I make you will easily absorb the sugar !

.....but is there a liquid/substance out there that can really stretch saturation to the limit ?

What is it ?...what's it for ?

Permeate and douche my head with your saturateable answers.

Thanks

neil

ps: xxx

if it's thick answers you want. How about my sister's gravy, it's not ready until the spoon can stand in it withouth falling.

One of the most soluble substances I know is Zinc bromide Zn(Br)2: 1 litre of water dissolves about 4800 grams of it.

Any idea about density, viscosity, refractive index... of such a solution ?

Silver perchlorate manages 5.57 Kg/litre, but I don't know if this is a record.
Among the things you commonly find in the lab, potassium iodide is among the most soluble (about 1.4kg/litre).
If you made concentrated solutions of both and mixed them in the right proportions you would get an odd effect- most of the stuff would fall out of solution. Silver iodide is practically insoluble and potassion perchlorate is only soluble to about 15 grams in a litre.
