Title: If the Earth were to suddenly disappear what would happen to the Moon?

Shannon Lanier asked the Naked Scientists:

Dear Naked Scientists, recently I was watching Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, At the beginning the Vogon's blow up the Earth to make room for a hyperspace bypass.  This got me to thinking If the Earth were to suddenly disappear what would happen to the Moon?  Would it fly off in some crazy direction or would the angular momentum keep it orbiting the Sun?

Thanks, love the show (http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/podcasts/)
