Are you aware that the United States Government has a patent for cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants?

Fortunately the patent is likely to be invalid elsewhere. A patent is supposed, in a civilised country, to protect inventions, not discoveries.

"No known use" does not preclude a patent being granted for a new use. Post-It notes were a failed new adhesive that didn't actually stick to things (unlike BluTack, which still has no known use).

Anyhow, it's a good wheeze, because anyone caught with an ounce of Mary Jane who claims it is for medical use, will now have to pay a royalty fee.
