Dearest Lobsterologists,

As a sheep I am of course an aficionado of haute cuisine and all things fine !...There's nothing more that soothes my pallate and quenches my thirst like a reheated microwaved burger and a pint of ' smart price' diet cola.....Now that's kwality fayre and we know it !!..I can soooooooo tell that ewe're jealous !! *le smug*

Look at Clarissa here, She's caught Larry The Lobster and has a special treat in store for him !!

DOH !!...poor Larry !...

But why did Larry get turned into a £100 Lobster dinner whilst still alive ?

Ewe see, my kwality microwaved burger (from a  pack of 100 for a £1 frozen and containing 10% animal ' residue ' ) is like...in no position to protest when I zap it !!....so....what's the big deal with Larry the Lobster ?


I just do not know ....I don't !! *Le Unknown*

Was he really still alive?

There was until earlier this year, one humane way of killing a lobster, which was to put them into a fridge and reduce the temperature slowly until they were effectively in a coma, and then to cut lengthways through the head and the 2 other nervous nodal joints (which were probably VERY nervous). Now, there is a "zapper", into which your lobster can be placed and then "electricity will be passed through your body until you are dead. God have mercy on your sole. Soul!" Sorry [;)]

The RSPCA condone the use of said "zapper" (more commonly known as "Frank").

BTW - the lobster in the first photo is already cooked. It is orange, whereas a live 'un is bluey-purple.

I like the lobster episode from the Simpsons. He gives the pet lobster a bath in hot water and then realises what he has done. He eats the lobster saying "I wish pinchy was here, lobster is so delicious....boohoo poor pinchy!"

Thanks Stu I just assumed Larry in the first picture was a well dressed Lobster !..If he had been cooked would he not be totally red ?

Ewe are of course right about the zapper but I still see cookery progs where they just plop them in the hot water.....still...probably quicker than steaming them eh ?

Probably because poor Larry is a shellfish, and shellfish go bad really quickly once dead (and shellfish food poisoning is unpleasant).

Dropping them into even boiling water still (apparently) takes several minutes for them to die. Not very humane, eh? Fridge 'em every time, sir!

'Larry was shellfish'. That's it, go on, pick on someone who can't defend himself any more. I heard Larry was quite the philanthropist.
