Do ewe know ?

No Basenji's do not bark! That is a dog! They make a small whimpering sound but no barking!

This is a Basenji:(https://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb73%2Fkarenw44%2Falbum%2520three%2Fbasenji_03.jpg&hash=0138b6021d9f1b07e3d1480fe8ec99ae)

I believe some breeds of cat are mute.
-
I suspect that there are inddividual dogs that don't bark.... and cats that don't mieow, but mostly (except the Basenji) do. We had a Gordon Setter for many years and she never once barked. The most she ever did was a sort of strangled yelp and that was very very rare, but others of that breed bark quite normally.
-
Indeed, the Basenji is the only breed of barkless dog.

What about Wolves and Coyotes ?...they are dog related !...do they bark ?

Yes, they do. Even the hyena sort-of barks (although it's more like a falsetto asthmatic cough)
-
Got'cha
Hyena's are neither dogs or cats - they are not only in a separate family but a separate sub-order of animals - Suborder: Feliformia, Family: Hyaenidae
Dogs are in the Family Canidae and cats in the Family Felida.

"Fred, have you seen the Beaver?"
"No, honey, he said something about a fan, then ran to the garage."

Can you point to where I said the hyena is a dog?

I'm going to bang your heads together, really boys.
Some cats trill, which is a higher type of cat vocabulary. My cat imitates the intonation of what we say and when she comes in says Hello. She can also say milk. She has definite non-meow sounds that she repeats when she wants to do something. She asks to come onto the chair with a two tonal trill.
She hates me when I sing operatically because to her I am caterwauling to a mate. People have written books on what is quite a complex language considering the few sounds they can make.
-
Dead cats and dogs are generally quiet.

I suppose she can recite the soliloquy from Hamlet too [::)]
-
No but she sometimes sits on the bird table and quacks like a Duck. Some people have mistaken this for Shakespear.
-
Some people have mistaken Shakespear for Shakespeare, the famous poet and playwright.
And surely, bird tables should be constructed in such a manner as to offer our little feathered friends the opportunity to dine without risk of being assailed by goddam cats!
-
Is Goddam a place or do you mean God damn cats. I don't have any cats from Goddam here. I only did CSE English Lit. so we didn't do old Shakey.

Goddam is a valid slang contraction of God damned, not God damn.

Just as well. He'd have been a bit smelly by then!
-
lions don't meow.
do you think so animals just don't make their associated noise because they can't be bothered or they are shy?
Sometime I don't want to talk either... although these days all I seem to say is "J no!"
-
Ah, some decorum and from an Australian too. Doctor Beaver you just don't know how to treat a lady. By the way there is a cat that says Hello on utube. If I can be bothered I will look it up for you, but only if you're nice.

"Nice" and "Doctor Beaver" should never be juxtaposed. The same is true of "decorum" and "Australian" [:(!]
