Title: The Human Species
Post by: roarer on 23/10/2006 08:00:50
Once again prior to writing the following I must categorically state that I am not religious and do not believe in any religion although I am not anti-religious where I tolerate them as I am of the view that they in collaboration with civil laws do have an effect in keeping order on this planet.
I realise that this is a scientific forum, but when that complex concept known as the human species is being analysed the inescapable conclusion may be reached that if a theory is offered to the effect that it was created...it's creator would have to be categorised in the genius class.
Nature, as part of it's objectives in the survival of the human species has endowed those same species with two instincts.......that of greed and ambition. But it does not end there. This brillaint concept is further complicated as the level and intensity  of these two  instincts  are in the relative (as distinct from being equal) and in accordance to opinion and/or moral and/or political beliefs in each and every one of us on this planet and in an abstract, but self controlling concept. This is nature at work in maintaining a balance. Collectively this balance is crucial to the survival  of those human species. Too much one way and the whole planet is engulfed in a quagmire of uncontrolled greed and ambition which will certainly and ultimately hurt each and every one of us. Too much the other way and the human species in the year 2006 would still be living in a cave and hunting for food as no incentive would have existed for the purpose of progress. Greed and ambition does play a large part in the progress of this planet after all.
These two important instincts as practised and manipulated by the big corporations around the world  is attributed to the progress on this planet. Capitalism therefore is more compatible to the human species than the old Communist doctrine of which it's creed was a direct antitheses of those two instincts..a flaw which in my view partly led to its's downfall.
Greed and ambition in the human species...is good. But not in the excess!
Nature via the human species will see to that.

i dont think greed is inborn in humanity. it is a learned trait beCAUSE of capitalism, not the other way around.

Well Gecko.... if it ain't...how come we all take advantage of it's by-products? You  have a car...a house...a TV set....perhaps a PC and a Microwave don't you? Do you know who invented those things? Well maybe you do..and maybe you don't...but NONE of those things would be existing on this planet right now....if the person/s who invented them WERE NOT greedy and ambitious? How do I know this? Well would you invent ANY of those things....for the purpose of making...NOTHING...ZILCH? I betcha you won't? Who would? Hands up anybody who would invent ANYTHING....and once successful...DOES NOT WANT ANY FINANCIAL REWARD OF ANY KIND FOR IT? I do not think that I'll get a lot of people putting their hands up here...I have this feeling!! Does this mean then that most of you are GREEDY?

i would invent a car, for no money, if it made traveling easier for everyone and reduced the need for horses and rickshaws. i would invent a HOUSE(WTF?) for no money because we all need shelter to survive. i would invent a TV set, for no money, for the vast communications and entertainment it can provide for so many people. i would invent a microwave, for no money, because it is a more efficient and usually safer way for people to cook their food. i would invent a PC... etc...

do you really think ONLY profit motivation was involved in all inventions? there havent been any inventors who invent simply to make the world safer/more comfortable?

this is what i mean by captialism causes greed, not the other way around. the motivation to help humanity do less work and be entertained is an inborn trait(in those of us with feelings) the motivation to market inventions as a comodity is LEARNED because we live in a capitalistic society.

Oh Gecko....Gecko....you are actually confirming my theory on this topic when you said that "you would invent certain commodities for the good of humanity....FOR NO FINANCIAL REWARD"
Read my post once again. Of course NOT everyone is leaning towards financial rewards for the progress of this planet....some do not want ANYTHING (like you)....BUT ....not ALL are like you..now are they? Some do it for NOTHING...some for little money.....and some for BIG money..am I right? Well that is the balance which nature has instilled in every one of us.As for me I would never invent something.....UNLESS I get a financial reward for it....BUT the level and intensity of greed in me is not as much as others.....as there will be a point where that financial reward would be JUST ENOUGH whereupon I'll say..that is it..I do not want anymore money.
