Title: Disrespect justified or not?

Causes or justifications for? If a child is upset at a parent does that "justify" them being disrespectful towards them? Should there be punishment for such behavior? What if the child feels disrespected? does that give them a right to be disrespectful? What if it is not a child but rather adults instead? Are there really any "good" reasons to be disrespectful to another?

I don't see that punishing disrespect does anything but match disrespect with disrespect – which then goes back to your question about symmetric disrespect.

But then, what do you judge to be respect, or disrespect?

Similarly, what do you see to be the practical benefit of disrespect?  One can understand an immature child will do something without any practical benefit being apparent;  even an immature adult may do so; but would not a mature adult first ask what are they trying to achieve, and how best to achieve it?  What achievement is available from an act of disrespect?

Clearly, there are situations where acting without regard for the formalities of proper respect may be demanded by the necessity of the situation, but any disrespect so shown would be an incidental byproduct of necessary action, rather than the primary objective of the action.

The only case where I can see a practical, if somewhat Machiavellian, benefit to a deliberate act of disrespect is if one is putting on such a show of disrespect towards a person for the benefit of making an impression upon a third party (i.e. in order to ingratiate yourself with someone who already has no respect for that person).

So basically there is no "good" reason for being disrespectful....I thought so also. I see so many people going around being that way to eachother for no "apparent" reason and often asked myself why, what the purpose of it was or what they ot out of it and could not find any answer that made sence.

mostly kids i see that way, but undertsnad age is a factor, but when i noticed then as many adults being that way then wondered...
