Title: Why don't i gag when swallowing sausage?
Post by: paul.fr on 14/09/2007 20:30:06
The other day i was eating hotdogs, and sucked the sausage out of the bun and down in one go. Hay, a dares a dare. This got me thinking! How come i did not gag when swallowing the sausage, yet put a finger down your throat and you gag straight away.

So Why don't i gag when swallowing sausage?

I have know other persons with this ability. They were very nice to me. Somehow, they could suppress the gag reflex by their own will. It sometimes happens spontaneously but most of the time it takes a lot of practice.

the key is to keep breathing. my uncle/dentist taught me a trick to not gag while he was trying to clean my teeth, and it works... just keep breathing through your nose. don't know how or why, but you don't gag if you're breathing
