No, that picture is not mine...I got it from Google Images crossing something like "bicycle" and "rain" or wet, I don't remember.
As soon as I can, I'll post a pic of the bold bald cod liver oil maniac!

I am very happy how my body is shaping up – it looks firmer, my posture is improved, and I feel more in shape. My husband and son both commented that they really see the difference. I am less tired, sleeping better, and more hopeful and focused. My confidence and self-esteem has improved, and I worry less and enjoy life more. Thank you for everything! Try it now!

I actually quite like spam, but to be perfectly honest, I've never found it did any of this to me! Perhaps I should try eating it rather than rubbing down with it!

Where I used to work I sort of faced away from the rest of the office and worked at a computer. I couldn't really do my work and carry on a discussion at the same, but I was still aware of the conversations going on around me. And one thing that really stood out was how much the other women in my office talked about food. What they had for breakfast, what they brought for lunch, what they made last night for dinner, a new recipe they found, what's on sale at the grocery store this week, where they went out for dinner last weekend, foods they like, foods that are bad for you, foods that Dr. Oz reccomends, foods they are allergic to, foods that give them indigestion, foods that might cause cancer, foods that prevent cancer. Or dieting. Food came up least once every 20 minutes or so. (If someone talked about drinking or sex or anything  that much, people would say they had some kind of a problem.)And every so often they'd get out of their charis and fix themselves a snack.

I started to wonder:
1) Do they talk about food because they are hungry, or are they hungry because they talk about food?
2) Back in our cave man days, it took a lot of time and effort find enough calories to stay alive. Now, between grocery shopping and cooking a meal, it takes maybe an hour and a half a day, if that.  But maybe our brains are still wired to think about food a lot.

A friend of mine lost about 150 lbs. I asked him how he did it, and he said he just tried to make food less of a big deal in his life. He said "Well I have to eat, but I don't go to restaurants much, I spend as little time as possible in the grocery store, I don't watch cooking shows, I dont look at the food commercials or ads in magazines, I don't talk about it, I don't read about it, and I just try to do more fun things that don't involve food or go places where people aren't standing around eating the whole time." But other than that he wasn't on any special diet.

All the dieting advice I've ever seen focuses on calories and eating healthy, which makes sense I guess. But if you're trying to quit smoking or drinking they tell you to avoid people places or things associated with your habit.

Good point about obsessing with food.

The social connection with obesity is supposed to be as strong as any familial connection (which, of course, carries its own family dynamics).

I have never been more than 20 or 30 lbs overweight, but even so, it has been a bit of extra butter to carry with me, and I can feel some things such as an increased risk of knee problems.

There are a few things that help...
I avoid buying candy, and as little as possible "ready to eat" food.  It is much better if one has to actually prepare the food.

And, of course, diet, + exercise + an active lifestyle.
Lots of fruit and veggies helps.  Although, it is easy to go overboard during the summer season.  Personally I think blackberries are an excellent diet food for the late summer as they are mainly juice and indigestible seed (which is filling, but not fattening).

A little meat gives a good balanced protein, but keep the proportions small.  A chunk of stew/cubed meat is great.

Make a goal...  including activities one would like to do if one looses the weight.  But, don't obsess over it either.

A little "overshooting" of the goal may help some too.
